Personal History: During Lord Voldemort’s first reign of terror, wizard Beckett Dunstan were wounded, when Death Eaters first took over the Ministry and following forced their way into his place of work; the Department of Mysteries below the Ministry. His parents did not trust St. Mungo’s Hospital to give him the time and peace he needed to regain his strength, and sent him abroad to the small village Truskavets in the Ukraine, to a sanctuary dedicated to nurturing people back to their usual health and strength.

As he recovered, he began leaving the sanctuary to fully enjoy the beautiful settings he had been put in, and it was on one of these walks that he met Truskavets native Jelena Bondar. As fate would have it, she was a witch, although working in a Muggle dermatology clinic. Their chance meeting turned into several planned dates, and before long, the two of them were a solid couple. They were married, and shortly after, they became a family, when Jelena gave birth to their firstborn, a son, whom they named Beale after Beckett’s grandfather.

Beckett had long ago recovered from his injuries, but instead of leaving for England, he and Jelena settled in a small cottage on the outskirts of the village; in Beckett’s mind the perfect place to raise a family. Two years later, Barr balanced off the little family, and for nine years, they lived in their cottage by the village.

When Barr was 9 years old, Beale received his letter from Hogwarts, Jelena and Beckett having decided that their children should rather be taught by the Headmaster whose deeds were rumored widely across Europe, as opposed to the Headmaster of Durmstrang, who was rumored to having cooperated with the Death Eaters during the war.

Barr immediately felt at home in their new house in England, despite it being located in Bloomsbury, London, as opposed to the Ukrainian mountains. Although she was just a child, she knew that she loved the diversity and opportunities the city had to offer, although she always looked forward to the holidays, when they would go to King’s Cross Station to pick up Beale, before they all went back to the cottage on the outskirts of Truskavets.

Finally, after two long years of eagerly awaiting her chance to go, Barr received her own letter from Hogwarts, and though she was sad when the train pulled out of the station, the sadness was quickly replaced with excited anticipation. Now she was going to be just as good at magic, like Dad, Matusia, and Beale.

Hogwarts was everything and more than Barr had ever expected. She thrived with the learning, and the more apt she got with her wand, the more comfortable she got in using her hands. The Hospital Wing fascinated her, and Madam Pomfrey was kind enough to show her the basics in Magic Healing and application of healing potions and paste. It was a proud Barr that one afternoon during her sixth year, left the Hospital Wing, after having healed an eyebrow that had been split open, under the strict supervision of Madam Pomfrey. Her truly proudest moment, though, was after she had massaged a pulled thigh muscle on a Quidditch Player, on sheer instinct, and Madam Pomfrey had smiled and told her she had healing hands. That was when Barr knew for certain, that physical therapy was what she wanted to dedicate her life to.

Her sheltered happy life at Hogwarts changed abruptly, when she returned for her seventh year. For the first time in her life, it hadn’t been possible for the family to go to Ukraine for the summer, and in the hopes that the school could offer more safety than their own home, the family decided that she should go, and finish her schooling.

Headmaster Snape’s reign at Hogwarts was horrible and frightening, and Barr was terrified to see that it became more and more common to see students with bruises, cuts and even hex marks on their faces, or limping due to injuries on their feet or legs. Soon, it seemed, that not a day went by without another face missing from meals and classes. Barr did what she could. Kept her head down to avoid punishment, and whenever possible, smuggled healing pastes and potions out of the Hospital Wing to treat the injuries she saw, always careful not to be found out by any of the professors. Little by little, it spread, and soon potions, paste and basic healing spells were being discretely dispensed throughout the school, to the students who needed it.

The night Lord Voldemort and his followers attacked the castle, was the worst night Barr had ever experienced. A night that still has her waking up with a scream in the middle of the night. Too many children, children too young to ever have to experience any such thing, was injured or killed that night. She saw brutality she had never dared think exist, and since she wasn’t good at defensive magic, she did her best at keeping herself hidden, along with other witches and wizards with healing talents, making their way through the castle and healing the wounded as best they could, ensuring them a better chance of survival.

The next morning, Barr didn’t hesitate one moment in getting on the train that would take her back to her family in London. It didn’t matter that she hadn’t sat her N.E.W.T.s, she just wanted to get away from the place where these horrors had taken place. Her family worried about her, and she only had to tell them once that she wanted to get away, before they were on their way, en route back to Ukraine, away from England and the bad memories of the things they had seen and experienced.

Once back in Truskavets, Jelena pointed Barr in the direction of a wizard running a practice of physio- and occupational therapy. He saw the talent in Barr, and took her in as her apprentice, working with both Muggle and Magical remedies and techniques, on both Muggle and Magical patients.

After three years, she began longing for the diversity of London again, and once she had finished her apprenticeship, she moved back to Bloomsbury, although this time to a flat she had rented. She had gotten a position as physiotherapist in training at a nearby practice, and was volunteering at a training program for Muggles recovering from traffic accidents in the evenings, and little by little, she began feeling at home again, with the dream of her own practice growing inside of her.
